In the pretty countryside in the Scottish Borders in southeastern part of Scotland we found a perfect getaway for our little family – the lovely Rubersview Shepherds Hut.

It’s located in a small village of Minto, in a large secluded garden on a private grounds with a great outdoor area and panoramic views over the rolling hills. It’s ideal for those who like to be on their own, away from the hustle and bustle and big hotel complexes.

We were immediately blown away by the carefully picked decoration of the exterior of the hut and the interior beautifully furnished with antiques and quirky items. It felt so much cozy and homely of what we expected and we could spend a month living in it!

INSIDE THE HUT

The rural furnishing, vintage items and the wood burner give you warm and homely feeling. On our arrival the hut was warm and inviting, because of the electric heating that you can use instead the wood burning stove. It has a comfy bed for two (but it can take three if one of them is a chid :)). There’s running water, electricity, oven, toaster and gas hob and all the kitchen utensils you can think of. There’s also a fridge in the shower room next door. A vintage radio, board games and books will keep you entertained also on a Scottish rainy day. You can also enjoy in amazing views trough the windows.

OUTSIDE THE HUT

When you step out of the hut, there’s a wonderful large wooden terrace with chairs and a table. At the end of terrace there’s a huge tree with an old wooden swing that hangs from it. Believe us – this swing is fun for young and for old!

LOCATION

Rubersview Hut is located on the edge of Minto conservation village, one hour driving by car from Edinburg.

On the outdoor area the owner is currently restoring an old gipsy wagon and building a bigger hut so there will be space for an accommodation for the whole family.

ACTIVITIES

Besides playing golf next door there are many nice walks and hills to climb in the neighbourhood – one of them was once an active volcano. Minto is a perfect location for discovering Scottish borders, the famous Border towns and the ruins of Melrose Abbey.

This glamping place has it’s special charm also because of its owner Rob. Not only he did an amazing job selecting all vintage objet d’art and collectables to make the Rubnersview Shepherds Hut so beautiful and inviting. Rob is a very friendly and warm host. We enjoyed so much talking to him and our kid had a great company of his cute dog.
