Autumn has already begun and we have to admit it – this is our favorite part of the year for hiking in Slovenia. There are not so many hikers anymore in the mountains and the colors the trees get in autumn are breathtaking. If you are lucky enough to be able to go hiking on a sunny day, you can enjoy in short sleeves even in the mountains!
When the larches and other foliage are beginning to get their color, we try to visit some very known and some a little less known places every autumn.
So these are our favorite fall family hikes in Slovenia that won’t take you a lot of time and are easily done with small kids too.
1. SLEMENOVA ŠPICA
This is one of the must see locations if you find yourself in Slovenia during the fall. It’s something special and unique. The hike is not difficult and suitable for families.
The first time we went there as a family, our son was less than 3 years old. Since then we are returning every year and the fantastic views impress us each time.
So, if you don’t have plans for the end of October/ beginning of November yet, this might be the right place for you.
2. KRSTENICA ALPINE MEADOW
Krstenica is maybe one of the loveliest alpine meadows that we visited till now. It offers beautiful views over the mountains and the first snow on them makes the perfect background for the beautiful autumn foliage. The shepherd’s huts on the meadow give a special, fairy touch to the scenery.
3. KONJŠČICA ALPINE MEADOW
The path to Konjščica leads trough woods, by a small stream and it’s very easy.
It’s settled in a valley, surrounded by peaks, covered by hundreds of larch trees and the views over the meadow are fantastic.
4. KLEK ALPINE MEADOW
This is a beautiful part of the Pokljuka plateau, in fall season covered with golden larches. Walking trough the woods and exploring the meadow can be very romantic and it frees your mind. On your way you can pick wild blueberries and strawberries even in October.
5. VIŠEVNIK ALPINE MEADOW
Viševnik alpine Meadow is one more from the area above lake Bohinj. It’s small and easy reachable from the end of the road at Blato meadow above lake Bohinj. The meadow is surrounded with larch trees and in the autumn all meadow is full of yellow gold color. You can extend your trip to the viewpoint Pršivec or maybe another great, off the beaten track Meadow Ovčarija.
6. VOŠCA
Situated in the Karavanke Alps near Kranjska gora it takes a short walk uphill trough the woods and grasslands to get to the top. And there, beside the ruins of an old military object, you will get a spectacular view over the Julian Alps and you will find yourself on the mountain border between Slovenia and Austria.
